Andromeda to Host International Women’s Day
Andromeda will be recognizing and honoring women who play important roles within our community
On occasion of International Women’s Day, Andromeda Transcultural Health Center will host an Open House to honor and recognize the work of outstanding women in the Washington DC area. The event will take place next Tuesday March 8, 2011 at 1400 Decatur Street, NW, Washington DC 20011 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. At 12:00 noon,
Andromeda will begin the recognition of women from the community and within Andromeda, who are helping improve the lives of community members through their work, efforts, example and community participation. Andromeda will also announce a special initiative geared towards raising awareness and prevention of domestic violence, including cultural patterns of spouse abuse linked to alcoholism.
The confirmed honorees are: Mrs. Roxana Olivas, Director, Office of the Mayor for Latino Affairs, Dr. Nickie Lepcha, Director, Veteran’s Affairs Community Living Center, Ms. Penny Ojeda, Director of International Activities, National Endowment for the Arts, Ms. Rebecca Medrano, Co-Founder & Executive Director, GALA Hispanic Theater, Mrs. Eliana Labarca, LCSW, Andromeda, Ms. Silvia Figueroa, Andromeda, Ms. Claudette Cepero, Andromeda, Ms. Beatriz Perez-Gomez, Media & Public Relations Specialist, and Ms. Jackqueline Maggi, Sculptor & Teacher, Duke Ellington School for the Arts.
